Fulani herdsmen kill 45 in fresh attacks in Taraba

There have series of Fulani herdsmen attacks that have resulted to death of many in their indigenous communities in the recent times.

No fewer than 45 persons have been reported killed in fresh attacks by Fulani herdsmen in Gashaka and Bali Local Government Areas of Taraba State while over 100 people have been displaced and render homeless.

A statement made available to the journalists in Jalingo and made available to the journalists yesterday by the Senior Special Assistant to Taraba State Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Sylvanus Giwa said 20 people were killed in Angai village  while 9 others were killed at Maisuma village.

The Senior Special Assistant to Taraba State Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Sylvanus Giwa, who confirmed the killings in a statement made available to journalists in Jalingo yesterday said 20 people were killed at Angai village while nine other people were killed at Maisuma village. Nine people were also killed in Dorei village and seven others were killed in Fali Village.

The trouble started when the attempt by armed herdsmen to rape a lady in one of the communities was resisted by the neighbours. The statement said the angry herdsmen came back and unleashed terror on the people of the communities. In the process they killed 44 people and rendered 100 others homeless.

Mr. Giwa noted that the state Governor, Darius Ishaku, was deeply concerned about the development as it was a serious setback to his efforts to resettle the internally displaced persons in the state. He however, revealed that Ishaku has vowed to eliminate any form of insurgency by evil agents under any guise across the state just as he stated that the displaced women and children are taking refuge at Mayo-Selbe, Kungana and Garbabi communities.
