The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has congratulated Chibuike Amaechi on his appointment as the Minister of Transport asnd asked him to immediately revive the aviation, rail and maritime sectors as soon as he assumes office.
Amaech was inaugurated alongside 35 others as minister on Wednesday by President Muhammadu Buhari. He visited the ministry after the inauguration and said he would formally assume duties on November 17.
Mr. Amaechi was not only a leader of the APC in Rivers State but also served as the Director General of the party’s presidential campaign organization.
In an statement released on Thursday, the APC asked him to direct his attention to “issues that need urgent attention as the man saddled with running the strategically important ministry.”
The party specifically drew his attention to the recent rating of the Port Harcourt International Airport, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, and the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, as some of the worst airports in Africa.
“This is not acceptable to us and we wish that Amaechi quickly correct this shameful anomaly imposed on us by the immediate past visionless administration,” it said in the statement by its chairman, Davies Ikanya.
“Amaechi is coming in as the Transport Minister at a time when the railway system is moribund and the maritime sector in a chaotic state.
“We know what Amaechi is made of and we expect him not only to turn around the fortunes of the railways but also to do same to the maritime sector,” said Mr. Ikanya.
The party said the minister deserved the appointment and assured Mr. Buhari that he would deliver beyond the president’s expectation.
“We heartily congratulate our leader on his meritorious appointment as Honourable Minister of Transport while at the same time extending our heartfelt gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for his confidence in Amaechi.
“We wish to assure Mr. President and all Nigerians that Amaechi, who has a track record of performance, will deliver even beyond expectations if given the necessary cooperation.”
The APC therefore appealed to all Rivers people and Nigerians to accord Mr. Amaechi all the support and prayers he needs to enable him ”translate his magic wand exhibited at the state level to the national level for the benefit of all Nigerians”
It equally congratulated the 35 other ministers and called on Nigerians to give them every needed cooperation to deliver and make Nigerians feel the positive change promised by APC.
