Detained spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh on Friday was granted N600 by a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Metuh was arraigned on Thursday on a two-count charge, in which he was accused of destroying the statement he made to operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He had been arraigned earlier before Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High on a seven-count charge of money laundering.
The Judge has since granted him N400 bail, but he has not met the conditions attached to the bail, as two sureties who have houses in the highbrow Maitama area, Abuja are required for the bail.
Justice Ishaq Bello of the FCT High Court on Friday considered the application for the bail when Metuh's lawyer, Onyechi Ikpeazu relied on the provisions of sections 158 and 162 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.
The judge agreed with the defence that the offences were bailable and that the Metuh was presumed innocent until he is proved guilty. The lead prosecution lawyer also agreed to the bail application.
The trial is expected to continue on February 26.
